Gēn is Chinese for root. The owner-chef revisits his culinary roots and childhood memories with nostalgic flavours and a tasting menu driven by local seasonal produce, especially fish, whose courses never fail to surprise. The plating is particularly pleasing, and sometimes playful, such as the silky chicken soup in a glass bottle. The wine list boasts over 30 organic and biodynamic tipples that complement the food perfectly.


Reservation Policy:
・Please select your preferred date and time, your reservation is not confirmed until deposit payment is made.
・Guests who couldn’t fetch your preferred time slot that available shown online, do find the time slot has been taken.

Operating Hour:
・Our team will be available from Wednesday to Sunday from 11.30am to 10.30pm.

Menu:
・Our tasting menu mainly revolves around the produce-driven concept; Chef Johnson’s interpretation of Malaysian ingredients and flavours, hence “My Malaysian Stories” is truly well defined, www.genpenang.com/menu
・Lunch and dinner tasting menu : RM450++ per person, from 20th Dec 2023 onwards.
・Kindly indicate your dietary restrictions and special occasions upon making the reservation, 48 hours prior to your dining-in date required. Please note that we do not cater to vegan diet and lactose intolerance.

Reservation Notes:

Guests Arrival :
・ Please adhere to the time slot that you have secured with us, in order to ensure we’re able to receive all guests with the best level of service.
・ Your table will be held for 15minutes only from the time of your reservation. Dress Code Policy:
・ Strictly on smart casual. No gym attires.
・We encourage long pants, covered shoes for gentlemen.

Child Policy:
・Children are welcomed to the restaurant, however, a friendly reminder that we do not provide children’s menu or children’s facilities.
・Please include the number of children upon making the reservation. Do remark the number of children for better seating arrangement.
・For children aged above 12 years old in the group, a full adult menu will be charged.


Cancellation Policy:
・A full refund of your deposit is only applicable for any cancellations made a week prior to your dining date only.
・Guests are allowed to change the reservation date and time once given advance notice of 48 hours only.
・We reserved the right to make amendments to your booking to meet government guidelines and by submitting the reservation, you agree to terms and conditions set out by the restaurant policy.
