About Merchant
  • From 1578 to 1670, the city of Makati was under the jurisdiction of a Franciscan priest named Pedro De Alfaro. Fr. Pedro took charge of constructing the parish church in 1620 and by 1670, Makati was established as an independent town.
  • The town was named San Pedro de Makati in honor of its patron saint. The locals, however, renamed it to the more colloquial and more welcoming – SAMPIRO.
